The End Of A Long Road
I have finally come to the end of a very long journey that took many years to finish. Today, I am officially a fully qualified doctor.
I woke up early yesterday morning thinking of the results of the degree exams that were to come out later on. The hours leading to 10:00 AM were impossibly slow and every minute seemed like a life time. I’ve always worked hard and my philosophy about tests, exams, and other benchmarks in life is that if you don’t get what you want, it is not the end of the world and you should never regret what happened, as long as you have done everything you could to get it. We drove both me and my friend to the Medical School at Stopford Building which immensely enlarged to become the source of authority over our future. They could effectively force our lives to rewind one whole year backward to start over again and have an other go. We stopped the car, hesitated a little then got out slowly. I felt the beats of my heart getting louder and stronger with every step I take towards the door. I’ve waited for this moment for many years.
People were crowding around a small person who was stapling a long list of names on the board. I pushed my way in between the backs and shoulders of a hundred fellow doctors. I did not recognize anyone and they were all looking semi blankly ahead with eyes scanning up and down the pages that hung before them. Few people were squeezing their way in the opposite direction already with big smiles on their faces. They have obviously made it. Few people at the front were frozen and shocked and were running their fingers now down the list of names. God I wish I am not one of them. A small space opened that was to take me right to the front, and there I was. It took me exactly 2 seconds to find my name down the middle of the first page. WOHOO, I need to hug someone!

Guys, your comments touched my heart. Thank you - thank you all. I do not know most of you guys in person but I sure recognise many of the names that have been looking and observing what I have been going through since I started many years ago. Thanks you lots, your cyber presence in my life helped me in many ways.
Having finished my double degrees in UK (BSc/MBCHB) I now have a job for the next two years. I really wish I can just end it right here, right now and go home for good. But I need those two years on my CV if i want these letters of the alphabet to be of the value they deserve. It is a long journey, the part that passed was draining both physically and emotionally but it is not the absolute end if I want advancement in my career. So sadly NO, i am not going home for good yet. I will not think about that now and will just focus on my graduation celebration to come soon inshalla. (+ my long awaited reward diving trip to Egypt)

I’m sure every student at the University of Manchester has a a story of some sort that can turn into a novel. I hope you don’t mind Sultan using your blog to mentioning mine.
My day started with intense fear that turned into denial. The latter made me seek a near by refugee camp in a near by city. All means of communication were disconnected deliberately. Then after a few hours of torture i found myself saying ” It’s now 1.00pm and results have been published at 10.00 am”. Such an oblivious state of the outcome of my long 8 years of hard work was unbearable. I couldn’t help but switch on my phone…..
then national help arrived. A message from a dear friend saying ”congrats, u passed :) ” . I felt exactly the way you felt but I had people around tooI squeezed.
Congratulation Sultan, I’m sure your on the moon with aching facial muscles from the constant smiling. May your Lord grant you all your wishes and may your dreams take you to the corners of your smiles.

NMGH, back in the times of ancient arabs, those who bear good news to their fellow doctors who just made it through a very long and demanding course, get lots of gifts and money,, *hint hint subtle*

It brings such a great feeling, sooooo blissful and this “internal reward” this inner feeling…. that can’t be explained nor can it be felt unless a person really works hard for it, and you sure did ya 5ouyeh… Now I’m holding a bachelor’s degree… and this is what I feel…so let alone being a doctor!!! Mashalla 3leeeek, I’m really proud of you…
