Day Four in Abu Dhabi
Work did not start yet. I did go on Sunday as previously mentioned but was told it takes time for the paperwork to fall into place and for HR to sort out the bureaucracies of the new placement. No complaints from my side. I could use the time to relax and get everything else in order. It is somewhat impressive that the Identity Authority are going to deliver my new ID card to me at home when they issue it - not really the sort of thing one is used to around here. I am still to get a health card, replace my driving licence and change my bank. What else is there? I could not decide which car to buy so I did what any confused man in my position would, I rented one for the time being until I make up my mind. I went to the cinema, seen few friends and skied in Dubai with Marwan.
Fourth day in Abu Dhabi and I think things are OK so far.

dude, dont get too excited about ur card delivered to u ! emiratespost sucks and sometimes its easier to collect it from them lol
about cars, its good that u rented a car instead of rushing to get one, but i suggest u rent a car that u think of buying and c if u like it or not ;)
one last think u should do, find a good place for coffee not far from u ;)

you know i always thought returning in summer would be oppressive due to the heat, but it is all in the mind! glad you enjoyed it and are still in the state of familiarising yourself with the city after all these years. if you need any info on cars lemme know, i know you are pretty clued up on finding information on the ‘net but sometimes a human can tell you more ;)

Marwan, I am going to give them the benefit of the doubt (and my 15 Dirhams), wait and see what happens.
Nadd, see I have not made up my mind really. I think I am going to chill for a month or so, take few cars for test drives - thanks for the offer though i may come back to ask you.
Droubi, 2001 finished, you have 6 more years to go :P
