Who am I
My name is Sultan. I am a doctor. I was born on 5th, April, 1980, finished school in 1997 and traveled to UK to attain a degree. My home country is UAE, a lovely place on the coast of the Arabian Gulf, north of Saudi Arabia. I was born in Al-Ain, an oaisis city in the desert of the Arab Peninsula, but my homecity is Abu Dhabi, the capital of UAE
I am very fond of gadgets and computers borderlining on the definition of a “Geek”. Growing up, I had an apetite for electictronics and was keen on fixing old TV sets, irons and radios. When I was very little, we had a computer that had no mean of storing information but had a version of Quick Basic which I spend many hours playing with and coding primitive animated games. Turning 15, I bought a 486 DX2 desktop with 4MB hard drive and by the time I finished school two years after, I had already assembled, disassembled, and reassembled it several times. I started surfing the online world in 1998 in an internet cafe in Edinburgh, Scotland and never managed to stop ever since.
I enjoy creating new things. The first thing I ever made when I was 10 was a primitive devise to extract hydrogen gas from tap water using battery carbon cores. In school, I loved science classes and took permission to borrow test tubes and chemicals to do my own experiments. Then when I started falling in love with the online world, I launched various websites that were sometimes pointless, sometimes useful, sometimes ambitious and sometimes just nice. At the moment, only my personal journal survived the pressure of my ever demanding profession. Due to time constrains all other online work had to be pulled down.
Somehow in the 90’s I found myself in a program to prepare me for entry into med school. It is not quite clear in my mind how I ended up in healthcare and not computers. It did not turn out to be a bad choice at the end. I enjoy medicine thoroughly and find the job very rewarding. Its is hardest when there are moral dilemmas to solve. I guess every other profession has its own moral dilemmas, but when it comes to medicine the answers usually have something to do with life and death.
I love diving, skiing, water sports, photography, desert camping, shooting, fishing, and learning new things about computers, science, the universe, and business.
